Core Values

Meet the Founders
Melanie Perkins: Co-Founder and CEO
Canva initially started as a Fusion Books, a school yearbook design platform that could be used by students to create and design their school yearbooks. At the time Melanie was working as a design teacher, showing students how to design their own digital products.

However, she noticed that students were always frustrated by the complexity of platforms like Adobe and Microsoft. Students spent the majority of their learning time grasping the foundations of the application, the features, buttons, etc… and not focusing on honing their creativity - effectively preventing her students from spending their time actually creating designs. Fusion Books laid the developmental groundwork for Canva, which later launched in 2013.
